Postdoc

Dr. Hilda Goins, Postdoctoral Researcher

Dr. Hilda Goins received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina A&T state University. She currently holds the title of Postdoctoral Scholar in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department at North Carolina A&T State University’s College of Engineering.  Her research interests include a myriad of topics such as signal classification using neural networks, biomedical signal processing, human machine learning, and cyber security. Currently, Dr. Goins is studying the effect of temperature, lighting, and other environmental factors on persons with dementia to minimize agitation episodes. During her limited spare time, she enjoys live theatre, church, and the company of her five grandchildren.

Graduate Students

Sarah Lewers

I am a Ph.D. student in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. In particular, my research interests include aspects of Logistics systems, Network Optimization problems, Frameworks in Cyber-Physical systems and Operations Research for engineering purposes. My current dissertation research topic is, “A Study of Location Logistics for Autonomous Vehicles in Humanitarian Relief Systems.” Previously, I have attained a Master of Science degree in Technology Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from NC A&T State University. My hobbies are liturgical dancing, reading, and cooking.

Nykesha Fyffe

I am a Master’s student in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NC A&T. My research interests include topics that combine social sciences and engineering and topics involving Big Data preparation and analytics. I am also interested in research with possible healthcare attributes as I was involved in biophysics research during my undergraduate career at Appalachian State University. Some of my hobbies include volunteering, especially with animal shelters and animal rescue organizations. I also enjoy cooking and baking, and experiencing different cultures and activities with my friends and family.


Ashley Lofton

My name is Ashley Lofton, and I am a Masters student in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NC A&T. My research interests include human-computer interaction and ergonomics. My current research topic is to identify technical and user requirements to support the development and design of cyber-human systems, which may alleviate burden and stress by providing effective systems for millennial caregivers. My hobbies are volunteering and participating in mentoring programs, traveling, and exploring new things, such as kayaking and parasailing.

Research Associate

Dr. Siobahn C. Day, Research Associate

Siobahn received her BS in Computer Science from Winston-Salem State University in 2005, her master’s degree in Information Science from North Carolina Central University in 2009, and in 2018 obtained her master’s and doctorate of philosophy degree in Computer Science from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Siobahn is the first female Computer Science Ph.D. graduate from the department. 

She is a Lecturer for the Department of Computer Science at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and an Adjunct Assistant Professor for Department of Computer Science at North Carolina A&T State University. Prior to this, she served as an Adjunct Instructor at several colleges and universities where she taught an array of courses in Computer Science. She has delivered numerous presentations on a variety of Technology topics at national and regional conferences.
